Hi Everyone! Happy Hump Day! Thank you for visiting my blog. I like to post about health related topics mainly on Wednesday. I created this saying in my brain ‘Wellness Wednesday’ and it just stuck. I also like to post about topics that are relevant to me and what I’m thinking about in the moment.

Today I wanted to dive in about carnivorism. What is carnivorism?

carnivorism. Noun. (plural carnivorisms) The fact or practice of being a carnivore.

What is a carnivore?

car·ni·vore
?kärn??vôr/
noun
  1. an animal that feeds on flesh.
    • ZOOLOGY
a mammal of the order Carnivora.

I looked this up on google because I wanted a clear definition. I’ve been hearing lately, and maybe its because I’ve become more of an herbivore more recently, my friends and acquaintances labeling themselves as carnivores. But if we really look at the definition of a carnivore, that statement is not true. It is true, however, that your diet could possibly be made up of only animal protein. But we as humans are technically, omnivores. Omnivores are classified as obtaining energy from animal AND plant. Where as carnivores strictly get their nutrition from animal protein. We all have choices to be what we like so a better and more true statement would be: ‘I choose to be a carnivore’ rather than ‘I am a carnivore.’

But further than that, we’re learning daily that a diet primarily made up of animal protein isn’t a healthy way of life for us humans. Although some may argue that animal protein is essential for every day life, another topic making headlines is how animal protein is actually bad for us. How it’s clogging our arteries which can ultimately slow our blood flow from our heart to the rest of our body. After doing more research, I came across a movie by James Cameron called ‘The Game Changers‘ a movie about a plant based diet. James Cameron is challenging the need for Viagra stating that eating meat can actually contribute to ED, that’s right, Erectile Dysfunction. Ifsunctiation, no? Again though, this is related back to the clogged arteries. If your arteries are clogged how can blood reach other parts of your body? Seems like a no brainer but try telling that to a society that relates ‘carnivorism’ to masculinity. I am hopeful this movie will change some minds or at least open perspective on animal protein.

In addition to excess animal protein not being beneficial to our health we find out there are different ways to get the nutrition we need. Why is this important? For our longevity and for our environment. Am I suggesting to let go of meat? No. But I think sourcing where your meat comes from is helpful not only to your body but also the environment. It’s said that meat production is one of the largest contributors to climate change. I’m really hoping Richard Branson is correct in stating that killing animals will be a thing of the past. Not only would we be a healthier society but our Mother Earth would appreciate it.

Thank you for reading my blog, my only hope is for everyone to be more conscious and discover truth about the food we eat daily.

Namaste,

Melissa
